Proper Management of Diabetes Can Lessen Complications ...

Diabetes is one of the diseases that most people have all over the world. Its prevalence caused health professionals to publish health articles because the condition leads to many complications that caused many people?s lives. There are basically 3 types of diabetes- the type1 Insulin Dependent Diabetes Milletus which is an autoimmune problem; the type 2 where it is the Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Milletus, and the Gestational diabetes wherein it only occurs to women when they are pregnant. Amongst the 2, type 2 is the most common and is due to obesity and other lifestyle factors.

Diabetes is confirmed through a series of test. Primarily, the most common diagnostic test is FBS or fasting Blood sugar. Blood samples are taken early in the morning after the patient is on NPO or nothing by mouth after 12 midnight. When the patient?s glucose level is above 120 mg/dl, then they suspect diabetes. There are other tests to be taken to confirm the condition like Oral Glucose tolerance test, and random plasma glucose test. Once affirmative, during the follow up check-up, the doctors will know if the patient is adhering towards the treatment plan by ordering Glucocylated Hemogobin.

There are many health articles related to diabetes because it is a lifelong problem proper care and management should be done because if not, it can lead to heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, a diabetic foot-which can be amputated and many other problems. In order to avoid these problems, it is essential to eat the right kinds of food as taught by the dietician. Reduce the carbohydrate intake and avoid eating too many sweets. It is also important to have a time table when eating so that the patient won?t experience hypoglycemia since medicines like insulin and anti-diabetic drugs will be taken.

Apart from that, exercising should also be done. When the body moves, this burns the fats and converts sugar into energy. It also helps the insulin to be absorbed in the body. The patient does not have to go to the gym and lift weights. Walking and jogging can be done and the patient can sweat. Medications should always be taken on time especially with insulin. This drug is important to every diabetes patient so it should be stored properly and expired drugs should be properly disposed.
